Alicia Morrison – Alicia joined the Momo Movement ensemble in March 2017, after attending community class. She loves being a part of the ensemble, there is time for her to be creative, learn new things and explore her own awesome dance moves. To date, Alicia’s favourite performed dance piece is the Mind Palace Tour from Community Day 2017. She enjoyed playing the role of a shape-shifter and using her imagination to help co-create the piece. She enjoys writing and sharing her own stories, and it is her dream to one day become a songwriter.
Chawna Exner – This week we are featuring Eva Angel! With a diverse background in dance, including training in the University of Calgary contemporary dance program, Chawna Exner has been a long-standing member of the Calgary arts community. The bulk of her involvement began with the discovery of her burlesque alter-ego, Eva Angel.
Since spreading her showgirl wings in 2009 with local troupes The Garter Girls, and Fake Mustache Drag, Eva has built her career as a burlesque artist around performing, teaching, choreographing, and costuming. While her performances have brought her around the country, she is a regular on many local stages.
Chawna/ Eva has been a member of the Momo team since 2018. Here, she proudly and passionately wears the hats of an instructor, rehearsal director, and admin assistant. She is a choreographer of one of the pieces in The Mind Palace show which premiered June 14th – 16th Decidedly Jazz Danceworks.
Hank Round – Hank started rehearsing with the ensemble in September 2018, after meeting the Artistic Director at a dance event. Shortly after, he attended Momo Movement’s first Community Day and was asked to join the ensemble to perform in the full-length production The Mind Palace. He enjoys dancing and showing off his cool moves, as well as singing. Hank is working towards being a television star.
Karin Hazle – Karin joined the ensemble in 2010, after participating in Momo Movement’s community classes for one year. She was encouraged to join the ensemble after her teacher Jade, noticed her passion for dance. Karin loves music and having dance parties, Katy Perry, and her boyfriend Matthew. Karin looks forward to creating and performing in dances about Star Wars.
Spencer Choy – Introducing Spencer Choy. Spencer joined the Momo Movement performance ensemble in 2009, after his sister signed him up for community classes. Spencer loves performing and meeting new people. His favourite Momo performance so far was the University of Calgary’s, Dance Montage 2011. He is keen to learn more dance and try other styles.
Susie Meredith –
Susie is one of Momo Movement’s newest ensemble members. She started taking community classes in the fall of 2018 and was asked to join the ensemble soon after, based on her enthusiasm, talent and performance experience. Susie moved to Canada from the United Kingdom, where she performed in several dance competitions, sometimes winning first prize. Susie loves powerful dance moves and performing as a soloist. She is looking forward to dancing to more pop songs, performing more solos and to one day have her dancing captured on film.
