DESCRIPTION:While queer narratives and characters appear (ubiquitous) across media and platforms\, what kinds of stories claim our attention and interest? What priorities emerge as queer and trans lives are imperiled by assaults by the rabid right? This is less an attempt to survey the field than to take a few inspiring examples by queer and trans makers and submit them for our collective scrutiny and enjoyment.\nAmy Villarejo joined UCLA’s Department of Film\, Television\, and Digital Media in 2020. Her research focuses on queer cinema and media\, critical theory\, and television; most recently\, she has published the 3rd edition of Film Studies: The Basics (Routledge\, 2021) and the Oxford Handbook of Queer Cinema (with Ron Gregg\, Oxford UP\, 2021).

The show takes a turn for the bizarre when years of resentment and confusion bubble up\, leaving the two of them hashing out their issues with sex\, love\, and identity in front of an increasingly restless audience. \nThis provocative\, original work premiered last November in Victoria\, BC and is created and directed by Hannah Mariko Bell and written by Sophie Underwood and Kiley Verbowski. The vibrant and unforgettable world of Going All the Way is realized through the work of SKAM’s creative team and crew\, including Stage Manager Megan Farrel. The puppets featured in the play were designed by Hannah Mariko Bell\, with Puppet and other Props Construction by Christian Tervo\, assisted by Sasha Lazin and Faith Robinson. DESCRIPTION:Going All the Way is a 1-hour theatre performance that follows best friends Avery and Beatrice (played by Ty Wesley and Loreto Espinoza\, respectively). They have spent their whole university degree creating off-the-wall performances\, but their final project is outside everyone’s comfort zone: teaching sex-ed to middle schoolers through puppetry. The show takes a turn for the bizarre when years of resentment and confusion bubble up\, leaving the two of them hashing out their issues with sex\, love\, and identity in front of an increasingly restless audience. \nThis provocative\, original work premiered last November in Victoria\, BC and is created and directed by Hannah Mariko Bell and written by Sophie Underwood and Kiley Verbowski. Bring a friend or alone!\nThis is our biggest event yet! We’ll have space for 30 PROUD players as we take on all 6 courts at our favourite school gym: Le Roi Daniels in SE Calgary. Even better\, we’ve scored FIVE timeslots over a 6 week period! Those players willing to commit to all 5 slots up front are being rewarded with a package price of just $50! \nThose who are uncertain can choose to opt for a waitlist space only. Waitlisted players will be offered a spot no sooner than 14 days before the event and will pay the higher rate of $12 per session. If you’ve been looking for a brand new\, exciting\, inclusive\, and accessible sport to pick up\, now’s your chance: that sport is Pickleball! \nJoin us at Le Roi Daniels School (47 Fyffe Rd SE\, Calgary\, AB T2H 1B9) for an Apollo Pickleball Open House & Play on April 8 from 11:30 am—2:00pm. All are welcome! \nThree courts will be dedicated to beginners and new/nervous players! If you’re new – you belong with us. For brand new players\, mentors Reinette & Elmar Otte will be on one court to introduce brand new players to some basics and get them playing. \nTwo courts will be for people who are new to the game and nervous about joining open play. On the other three courts\, people will be in the game\, open play style. It’s the perfect way to meet new people and come together in a very social sport. Join a cast of quirky characters who find themselves in the radius of a crime- as they all try to seem as innocent as possible\, and puzzle out relationships\, suspects and motives alike in this always-unique experience inspired by classics like Clue\, and new favourites like Knives Out that celebrates the true crime genre- without the truth! \nF Squared Improv is committed to creating respectful and professional spaces free from discrimination\, producing and performing in quality productions that all audiences can enjoy. We provide valuable oppurtunites for improvisers at all intersections of identity to practice and perform\, reflected by our cast featuring improvisers of all ages\, identities\, abilities\, and levels of experience\, and through our rehearsal and artist engagement practices\, which emphasize inclusion\, participation\, and developing skills for every “stage” in life!
